Design and build of a global exhibition in Berlin

Hyperloop One is in the running to bring Elon Musk’s vision of the future of transportation to reality. It’s the latest in transport technology – a new way to move people and things at airline speeds. Think broadband for transportation. It promises to shuttle humans and goods in a vacuum tube system at speeds of up to 750 mph! The world saw the test of the first full-scale Hyperloop system in early 2017 and we can say it did not disappoint.

Hyperloop One showcased their product for the first time at the public-facing exhibition, InnoTrans, in Berlin. The company is about to change face of the transport industry as we know it – the dream is fast becoming a reality and we jumped at the chance to come on board to develop their public face as their journey grows closer and closer to reality.

Create // An Incredible Interactive Experience

Hyperloop One secured a place at Innotrans – the leading international trade fair for transport technology which takes place every two years in Berlin and occupys 41 halls at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

With 2,995 exhibitors representing 60 different countries and an exhibition area of 200,000 sqm – Innotrans gave our very own, Mick Cullinan and our design team an enticing challenge. We were tasked to play with shapes, materials and imaginative design to impress the best of the best when it comes to advances in technology in transport.

After being hired as Hyperloop One’s creative events agency, we were asked to create an incredible interactive experience which gave attendees a glimpse into the future of transportation at InnoTrans in Berlin.

Working with the Hyperloop team, our team at Catapult began to explore what that identity should look like for their global debut. Hyperloop One had never presented their brand at a public event, which made our task of executing a flawless and memorable brand launch even more important.

Our challenge was to create an identity that would stand apart from the other exhibition stands and spaces while representing Hyperloop One’s vision for the future. Something that attendees would never forget! We worked with the co-founder, director of operations and their team to create the first corporate exhibition strategy–the physical representation of their brand. With such a new team, a new concept, and a product that wasn’t manufactured yet, the challenge was difficult and one that our team at relished. We’re always up for a good challenge!

Experience // A Brand New Event

Designing a space without a tangible product, a very open ended brief, and delivering an experience that stands out from the crowd was no easy task. However, the entire Catapult team really put our heads together to create something powerful.

“They have never done a public event as Hyperloop One. All they had done was specific ones where they do a test track. This was a trade show, so they had never presented their brand publicly before.”

Ronan Healy, CEO, Catapult

Catapult lead the movement to make the Hyperloop One’s vision a reality at Innotrans. A reality that customers could feel, stakeholders could trust and that our team could gather at for that all important team photo (we love a good selfie). A live experience for Hyperloop One’s first public-facing customer event.

The only tangible products our team had to work with were the prototypes of the transportation tunnel and pods in which the people would eventually travel. Using the curved lines of the tunnel and the sleek style of the renders of the pods, we began creating the exhibition space.

The team at Hyperloop One wanted to add some unusual elements and eye-catching pieces to the space, somewhere with little to no branding, somewhere they could have coffee, impress investors and make their mark while showcasing the video content that they had created.

Using a curved LED to display the video content and innovative materials, we created a glossy and sleek space with subtle mentions of the brand colours and logo.

Impact // Experience The Future of Transportation

Well over 100,000 trade visitors passed through the doors of the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, and Hyperloop One outshone over 200 other companies. Ultimately establishing new contacts and showcasing their technology vision for the future.

Two months after Innotrans, Hyperloop secured their partnership with leaders in technology and the government in the UAE from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. We’re excited to say that have signed up to host the test sites for the first ever Hyperloop One!

Catapult delivered on the client’s objective and received superb client feedback.

“We are excited to participate at Innotrans 2016 and introduce a new audience to Hyperloop. We worked with Catapult and designed an incredible interactive experience at our booth which will give attendees incredible insight into the future of transportation”
