Helping Lidl Ireland showcase their grassroots connection to Irish suppliers at The National Ploughing Championships

Every September, the National Ploughing Championships takes place in Ireland. The event attracts more than 1,700 exhibitors and up to 291,500 visitors. Brands and retailers from a spectrum of industries come to showcase their products and services for the three-day event which also happens to be the largest outdoor event in the country.

At Catapult, we specialise in brand experiences, experiential marketing, and exhibition stand build. Over the years, we have worked with many brands who attend the National Ploughing Championships, ultimately making a name for ourselves as a top creative events agency in Ireland.

In addition to working with clients on one-off events, we have clients who trust us as their go-to creative events agency. For example, we have worked with Lidl Ireland at the National Ploughing Championships for several years and have developed a close relationship with the company.

Our team worked with Lidl on creative concept development, design, supply, and exhibition build for the 2015 & 2016 National Ploughing Championships.

Create // A Space to Connect with Consumers and Suppliers

The National Ploughing Championship is an opportunity for Lidl to connect directly with their customers and their suppliers. The event offers Lidl the chance to showcase their grassroots connection to Irish suppliers, a space to engage directly with consumers, and a brand experience that stands out from the competition.

For the Ploughing Championships, we were asked to create a brand experience that showcased their suppliers and provided samples of food they carry in-store. We were  also tasked to include some space for HR, entertainment, and some of their charity partners – all under one roof.

Experience // The Big Green Barn

We are known in the event production industry for our creative and innovative approach. We always strive to provide our client’s with creative solutions that are unique and awe inspiring. On this occasion, rather than a regular marquee, we came up with an out-of-the-box idea – A Big Green Barn. Meeting the NPA environment and client desires, the Barn was a 1,200 sqm traditional wooden structure. The interior was entirely bespoke and designed specifically for the event with a kitchen marquee, a storage/office marquee and a viewing platform.

Over the three days of the Championships, a core staff of 35 with 40 suppliers served over 200,000 food samples to visitors. Our production and logistic teams managed all aspects of this event, from working with the caterers on the food ordering (and possibly food sampling) to service logistics. Inside the barn, there were also different customer activation points which featured a live cooking demo with celebrity chef, Paul Flynn; RTE celebrity, Dáithí Ó Sé and live music performances from Marty Mone and his band.

Impact // A Barn of Family Fun

Not only did thousands of people pass through the barn with fun and activities for all the family, but they also left full and satisfied!
